Interactive Basketball Game - Pando Technologies
Pando Technologies is a product design and development consultancy that sponsored a project for a mechanical engineering class called Designing Smart Products. The goal of the project was to develop an interactive system for practicing a basketball dribbling. I designed an Windows-based game (written in Visual Basic.NET) that incorporated images--a basketball between various targets--and audio--various hip-hop sound clips created from mp3 files--into an easy-to-play game that challenged players' dribbling skills.
As players dribble in front of the sensor (which is embedded into a sports cone) corresponding to the position of the ball highlighted onscreen, the onscreen position of the ball changes. The quicker a player dribbles in front of the correct sensor, the more points they earn. As the player approaches the goal of 1,000 points, the music changes and a crowd begins to roar, crescendoing as the player's score tops 1,000 points. The system is shown below.
As of this update, this game is part of a pending patent, on which I am listed as a co-inventor.
